howling noise

I get a kind of howling noise sounds like it is coming from the rear end but could be tires or exhaust. I am not sure but do the new cars get oil in the rear end like they used to. We had to check the rear end from time to time. If anyone has had this problem let me know what I can do. It sounds like when a throw out bearing is going kind of.
