It's Hemi Day!

It’s 4/26/19- Hemi Day!

Dodge has announced that the order books are now open for the “Hellephant”- Mopar’s supercharged 426 Hemi crate engine.

Since the 2018 SEMA show, over 1,000 orders have been taken.

The motor carries Part No. P5160194 with a price tag of $29,995. That translates to the low price of $29.99 per hp., a price that will be recognized as a relative bargain by anyone who has tried to achieve 1,000 horsepower on their own.

Chrysler says its Hellephant engine installation kit, Part No. 77072500, will be a "plug and play" experience for the seasoned engine installer; it's priced at $2,265. Additional products designed to streamline the installation of the Hellephant include the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) kit, an A/C Expansion kit, the Exhaust Manifold kit, a Rear Sump Oil Pan kit, and a 45-degree oil filter. Prices for those weren't announced yet but will be ready to preorder on FCA's Mopar product website.

October 2019 Update:

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles' 1,000-horsepower Mopar Hellephant crate engine is finally ready to enter production after a technical issue stalled availability.

Muscle Cars and Trucks received official confirmation that the engines will start rolling off the assembly line before the end of the year after the company resolved a quality issue. Separate sources told the outlet that the problems centered around camshaft failures due to excessive tension.
Legal for track cars or emissions-exempt classics, the 7.0-liter supercharged V8 boasts four-figure horsepower and 950 pound-feet of torque -- significantly higher than the Dodge Demon's 840 horses and 770 pound-feet of twist.

The company quickly sold the entire year's allocation of hand-assembled Hellephant engines in just two days despite a $30,000 price tag.
